What do London buyers expect from an Indian supplier?
They expect reliability, clear communication, proper paperwork and a named person they can trust, and they want all four before they look closely at price. London buyers work with suppliers from every corner of the world, so being good is not enough. You have to be good, easy to work with, and known.
Reliability above everything
A London buyer's own customers expect things on time. A supplier who hits every date, and warns early when something might slip, is worth more than one who is a little cheaper. Keep promises small and keep every one of them.
Clear, prompt communication
Reply quickly, even if only to say you are looking into it. Write plainly. Confirm what was agreed in a short email after every call. The time difference, four and a half or five and a half hours depending on the season, means a Mumbai afternoon is a London morning, so use it to have answers waiting when London wakes up.
Paperwork done properly
Contracts, certificates, data protection, insurance and compliance all matter to UK businesses, and larger buyers will run checks before they sign. Having your documents ready, tidy and current tells them you are serious.
A person, not just a company
Buyers like to know exactly who to call. Make sure they have one named contact, ideally someone who has met them, and keep that person consistent.
Respect for British understatement
"That might be a little tricky" can mean "absolutely not". "Not bad" can be high praise. Read the polite tone, ask kindly when in doubt, and never mistake courtesy for a yes.
Proof from people they trust
Case studies help. References help more. But nothing opens a London door like an introduction from someone the buyer already respects.
Who can make that introduction?
The Bridge can. Tell the host the kind of London client, partner or adviser you want to meet. If they genuinely know someone suitable, they introduce you both in a short note explaining why. Nobody buys lists, nobody chases referral numbers, and nobody is introduced just to fill a diary.
The Mumbai-London Business Bridge
Advocate Burhanuddin Patanwala holds the Mumbai end, through Fortitude Law Associates. The London host seat is open, for someone London business already trusts who wants to welcome the first members personally.
Like the *dabbawalas*, who deliver lunches across Mumbai without fail, the suppliers who win London are the ones who simply always deliver. Name the one London buyer you want, and ask who already knows them.

Mumbai's lunchbox carriers. Every working day they collect home cooked lunches from kitchens across the city and deliver each one to the right desk, passing it from hand to hand along the way.
